David Carroll Hodge passed away serenely on Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Golden Living (Cedars) Nursing Home.
He was born on July 25, 1921, in the city of Morristown, Tennessee, a son of the late James Ellis Hodge and Georgia Cates Hodge. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alice Gratz; and by three of his brothers, Benton Hodge, James Ellis Hodge Jr. and Charles Hodge.
He is survived by his widow, Arlene Hodge; his two sons, John and Alan Hodge, and Alan's wife, Arris Farley Hodge; his brother, Millard Hodge; and three grandchildren, Amanda, Eli and Redmond Hodge.
David Hodge grew up during the Great Depression and fought in the 840th Engineer Aviation Battalion at Normandy during World War II. After the war, he took advantage of the G. I. Bill to gain a degree in Economics at the University of Tennessee. He worked in business research at UT and, later, at the University of Georgia, and finally at the University of Virginia. He was listed in the 6th edition from 1982 until 1983 of Who's Who in the World. His retirement years were tranquil and happy.
A memorial service was held Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the Rugby Avenue Church of Christ, led by the Minister Isaac Myers. Those wishing to convey condolences to Arlene Hodge may visit her at the Golden Living Center, Saturday, February 11, 2012.
