SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
John Brown was born May 22, 1878 in Brooklyn, New York. His father was Jacob Brown, born in Germany. There was no name listed for his New York born mother. He stood five foot nine inches and had a dark complexion.
Enlisted October 30, 1900 in New York City, New York. Assigned to Company "C", 26th U.S. Infantry. Discharged due to a disability on December 22, 1902 at Presidio, California. A pension was awarded on Certificate No. 1,201,836.
When Mr. Brown applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home from Davenport County in 1923, he was 45 years old and had been a resident of the state for twenty years. He was a single man.
Mr. Brown died in Walla Walla at a government hospital on March 27, 1929 at 2:30 p.m. He was buried in the Home Cemetery at Restil on March 30, 1929.
