Betty Joan Barnes, age 83, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, in the Bridge Hospice unit at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Betty moved to Findlay in October 2009 and was a resident at Primrose Retirement Village in Findlay. She had been a 33-year resident of Greeley, Colo.

Betty was born April 4, 1927, to the late Harley C. Renollet and M. Edna (McClure) Renollet, in Brookville, Ohio. Betty attended Fairview High School in Dayton and graduated from South High School in Denver, Colo. She attended the University of Colorado, majoring in art.

She married Robert F. Barnes on Sept. 7, 1947, in Denver, Colo., and he preceded her in death in April 1992, after 44 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Trina Lynn Barnes in October 1984; a brother, Robert H. Renollet., March 1945, who was a casualty while serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II; and a grandson, Kurt W. Kruse in February 2003.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Roxanne S. Barnes of Greeley; sister, Martha (Marty) B. Cohen of Findlay, Ohio; grandchildren, Alicia Kruse and Shane Kruse; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Moen, Micah Kirk, Colby Kruse and Tiffany Kruse, all of Houston, Texas. Nieces and nephews include Elizabeth Cohen Hunter, Katherine Cohen Piatt, Jonathan Cohen, Jerry Barnes, Jennifer Barnes and Kevin Barnes. Prior to retirement, Betty was employed as a secretary at Aims Community College, Greeley, in the radiation technology department. She donated her time generously to the Silver Medallion Club, Senior Center, Greeley Museum, Centennial Village and Eldergarden Adult Day Care. She was especially talented in her artistic endeavors, including sewing, knitting, gardening and creating craft items. She and her friends held a "Holiday Boutique" of handcrafted items at Betty's home for many years. She enjoyed her pets, travel, playing bridge and reading.

Memorial donations may be made to Eldergarden or Centennial Village or to a charity of the donor's choice.
