Mother of Hon James Y Carithers, of this City, Died Sunday Night
Sunday night at the home of her son, Hon James Y Carithers on Hill street in this city, Mrs Mary A Carithers, after an illness of two weeks, passed to her reward. Mrs Carithers had reached the advanced age of seventy-eight and her death was not entirely unexpected.
Mrs Carithers was born in Clarke county, Aug 24, 1832 and had lived in ______ all her life. The greater part of her life was spent in Walton county, where everyone who knew her counted her as a dear friend.
She was for the greater part of her life a member of the Baptist church, being up to the time of her death the oldest member of the Baptist church. She was possesed of all the beautiful virtues of the Christian woman, kind to those around her, generous to a fault, devoted to her church, affectionate and gentle in all the duties of the family life, beloved of her children, her life crowned with loving deeds.
Mrs Carithers was the widow of the late H A Carithers, of Walton county, and is survived by three children, Hon J Y Cariathers, of Athens, and Messrs R L Carithers and H A Carithers, of Winder. Her grandchildren are Mrs J H Hosch, of Gainesville, daughter of the late Dr John G Carithers, Mrs Leslie Lee, of Covington, daughter of the late Dr Carithers, of Winder. She is survived by three brothers, Messrs Frank P Griffeth, of Athens, R S Griffeth, of Bogart, and M C Griffeth of Oconee county.
The funeral of Mrs Carithers will be held this morning on Hill street there will be prayer services, after which the remains will be carried to Bethabara church, where the funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock this morning, conducted by Rev J W McWhorter, assisted by Dr M A Jenkens.
The pallbeareres will be Messrs W T Bryan, W G Griffeth, J H Griffeth, Sr, A E Griffith, G E Deadwyler, J J Strickland, Billups Phinizy and J H Dozier.
