EAST PALESTINE — Stanley M. Coblentz, 87, of 90 West Highland Ave. passed away early Wednesday morning at the St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, following a seven-month illness. Stanley was born Dec. 27, 1919, in East Palestine, a son of the late Gilbert M. and Tillie McCowin Coblentz, and was a life resident of the community. He had been employed as a machine operator with the former Burns & Son Coal Company for 30 years, and later retired from the former L. W. Nash Co. He was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the First Church of Christ and had served as a deacon with the church. Stanley is survived by his wife, the former Grace Louise Ulam, whom he married March 29, 1947. She is currently as resident of Whispering Pines, Columbiana. He also leaves two sons, John Paul Coblentz, Silver Lake Village, and Gilbert Stanley, and his wife, Gayle, of Roanoke, Va. Six grandchildren also survive, Sera Coblentz, New Jersey, Seth Coblentz, Florida, Marcella Rierson, Arizona, Scott Coblentz, North Carolina, and Amy and Abby Coblentz, both of Virginia. A brother, Roy Coblentz, preceded him in death. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with Robert J. Helbeck of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
