On July 24, 2009 fifty-one-year-old Shannon Marie McKillop's dismembered body was recovered in and near a Boise-Cascade mill pond along Pumpkin Ridge Road just south of Elgin, Oregon. McKillop was also known as Shannon Marie Sloan.
On August 1, the bodies of her boyfriend Frank M. Scaramuzzi and their friend Jeremiah A. Johnston were discovered by searchers in a remote location near Elgin. Authorities believe that they were killed separately from, but at about the same time as McKillop. They had all last been seen alive in mid-July.
An acquaintance of the three victims, an unemployed house painter, has admitted to killing them when he was under the influence of methamphetamine.
