Alice Leora Payne Hollingsworth, 81, of Elgin died Feb. 17 at her home. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Elgin Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints with Bishop Richard Rasmussen officiating. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., and from noon until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was born Dec. 26, 1921, to James Leander and Olive Velate Manning Payne in Trenton, Utah. On June 3, 1939, she married Raymond Hollingsworth in Trenton. She lived in the La Grande and Elgin area for the rest of her life.
She was a member of the VFW Auxili-ary and the Pythian Sisters and served as president and twice as most excellent chief. She worked for many years in the grass fields, at Eldrige's Meat Co., as a cook at Fancy Dan's Restaurant, and as a waitress at Odie's Steak House. She enjoyed embroidery, being in the mountains, being at the ocean, reading scriptures and being with her family.
Survivors include children, Lee Ray Hollingsworth and Deanna Hylton, both of Elgin, Joyce Challis of Umatilla, Danise Wheeler of Molalla and Viki Davidson of Mulino; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and other relatives. Her husband, a brother, Jack Payne, and her sisters, Mildred Witty, Helen Trump, and Vada, Sybil and Beverly Payne, all died earlier.
Memorials may be made to the Family History Center in care of Daniels Chapel.
