Pilot of the ill-fated Piedmont Airlines Flight 349, which crashed into Buck's Elbow Mountain near Crozet, VA while on approach to Charlottesville Airport.
He was 32 years old, from Sharpsburg, PA, and a WWII Navy veteran. He left behind two children, Nadine, and Wayne. He was divorced, but in the process of reconciling with his former wife. He was also a deeply religious man. He had over 5100 flight hours at the time of the crash.
26 of 27 souls on board the DC-3 died on impact. Phil Bradley, the sole survivor, later wrote a book about the incident.
