Josephine Luella Phillips was born on August 21, 1910 to John J. Phillips and Mary Jane Baker. She was one of twelve children. She was first married to Barron Kearns, then in 1934 she married Edward Travis Gish . She had one daughter from her first marriage and three children from her second.
