|Birth: ||1996, Germany|
|Death: ||Feb., 2000|
Marie was my cat, and the only animal I ever truly loved.
I got her towards the end of my junior year of high school in Germany, when she was 6 wks old, while my family was stationed with the Air Force over there. She was the only female of a litter of 5, and the only non Orange tabby of the bunch. She crawled right out of the basket and straight up to me, and she had my heart from then on. My sister also took home her brother, who she affectionally named "Sir Chester" in keeping with the royal tradition.
We brought her back to the states with us in 1997, and she really enjoyed living on the 5 acres my parents bought. She was a great hunter, and many times we awoke to find her standing proudly at the front door with her latest kill in front of her.
She birthed a litter of 6 kittens the night Princess Diana died, which is how I always remember the date. Of those kittens, one, a female I named Deets, was her spitting image.
After I had my son in 1999, she seemed upset with me and showed it by taking care of her personal needs in places I could not miss (my bed mostly). She was always finicky, but always came to me, and only me, when I called her by name. The only other person she ever took to was my husband. I used to call her "traitor" when she would curl up on his pillow instead of mine, :).
From 1999 to 2000, my parents had an unknown predator on their land and we lost many cats (as well as chickens & goats), including her brother, Sir Chester. Marie took to sleeping on the roof. But one day in February, she failed to come when I called. After days of searching, my family finally told me that they had found her and buried her. So, she is buried on their acreage, along with all the other cats, 1 dog & one baby rabbit.
I miss you every day Marie!!
I was finally able to get another cat as a pet, in July 2005. One of them, who I named King Tut, has the same coloring as Marie. I wonder if that was part of the reason I got him.
