James L. Connors CHESAPEAKE - Bishop James L. Connors, 61, of the 2900 block of Darius Court, died April 9, 2008, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth. Born in Alton, Ill., he retired from behavior medicine child/ adolescents at Maryview Medical Center after 20 years and also retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander. Bishop Connors was a member and associated minister of New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake, member of Chi Beta Phi Nursing Fraternity, U.S. Retired Military Officers Association, member of the nurses association of New Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Hampton Alumni Association, Virginia Beach Chapter. Survivors include his wife, Brenda W. Connors; a daughter, Jamesia L. Connors of Hampton; a son, Shawn M. Connors of Suffolk; mother, Lizzie A. Connors of Alton, Ill.; a sister, Diana Williams of Alton; three brothers, Delbert Connors, Henry Connors Jr. and Tyrone Connors, all of Illinois; a grandchild, Jai Lynn Connors of Suffolk; uncles, cousins, including a special cousin, June McLemore, other relatives, in-laws and friends. He was the son of the late Bishop Henry S. Connors. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Joyce Foster. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
