SHAWNEE, Okla. — Eugene Doyle Heatley passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 after a brief illness with cancer.
Doyle was born March 12, 1929 in Reydon, Okla. He attended grade school in Tribbey, Possum Trot Elementary, and Wanette. He attended high school in Wanette, later graduating from Trousdale High School in May 1947.
He entered military service at age 18, serving four years in the U.S. Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and four years in the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker, Ala. In 1953, he met and married Wynelle Lucille Miller. He attended Oklahoma City University. After college, he was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an Animal Health Technician, and worked there until his retirement. He was a cattleman and horse breeder in the Trousdale area for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Wanette Masonic Lodge and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Wanette.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynelle Lucille Miller Heatley; daughter, Lee Ann Heatley; father, John W. Heatley; mother, Gladys Mary Carter Heatley Hanna; a sister, Mattie Lee Farrell; two brothers, John W. Heatley, Jr. and Leon W. Heatley.
He is survived by five sisters, Virginia M. Cash, Ruth Frejo, Lora Thomas and her husband Dana, Iris Ann Bailey, and Sue Conkwright and her husband John; one aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Thornton; 10 nieces, four nephews, 11 great nieces, seven great nephews, one great great niece, and one great great nephew.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors for their prayers and support. The family has designated the American Cancer Society as appropriate for memorials. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 at the First Baptist Church of Wanette under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery. Visitation will be held in Wanette at Cooper Chapel on Wednesday, from noon to 8 pm.
