U.S. Congressman. He moved with his parents to Missouri, in 1851 and during the Civil War, he served as a First Lieutenant of Company D, 16th Regiment, Missouri Infantry, Confederate Army. At the war’s end, he remained in Louisiana and engaged in agricultural pursuits. Entering politics, he was a member of the State constitutional convention in 1879 and served in the Louisiana State House of Representatives, (1880-88). In 1894, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Newton C. Blanchard, reelected to the Fifty-fourth and Fifty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1899. After his term, he resumed his agricultural pursuits, until his death at age 62.
