Age 76, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Regency of Whitmore Lake Nursing Facility. She was born July 4, 1936 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the daughter of Rev. Cecil and Janet (Urbauer) Wells.

On June 22, 1955, she married Richard Wallerstedt in Des Moines, Iowa and he survives. Marlene was the organist and choir director at St. Matthews United Methodist Church for 35 years and she was a LPN, retiring from Urology Surgery Associates. Marlene was raised in Iowa, a minister's daughter. After marrying Richard, they lived on an Air Force base in California before moving and settling in Ypsilanti.

She was a self-taught keyboardist. In addition to serving as a faithful musician at St. Matthews, she served on many worship committees. Marlene touched many youth in the community through her leadership as a scout leader, volunteering at schools, and serving her community. Beginning every January, musicians of all kinds would file into our house to practice for solo and ensemble competition. She always encouraged the students to do their best and gave them an abundance of support and confidence in what they were doing.

At the age of 40, she went back to school to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse; an occupation she loved. Marlene loved sports - especially her beloved Wolverines.

The family spent summers as members of Lakeview Swim Club and camping with friends all over the great state of Michigan. Marlene loved playing golf, traveling to Marco Island, and spending winters in Mississippi with her beloved Richard.

In addition to her loving husband, Richard, of 57 years, survivors include: three daughters, Christine (George Kokales) Williams, Janis Blatz and Lee (Josh) Keller; five grandchildren, Jacob (Kristen), Haley, Alex, Angela and Grace; two sisters; one brother; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Isiah Matthew and her son-in-law, Kevin Williams.

Cremation has taken place.
