Son of Thomas Northrop and Rosina (Whipple) Northrop. Born in Fairfield, Franklin Co, Vermont. Family moved to Newstead Township, Erie Co, New York in the late 1830's. There he met and married Ephemia Dart in 1857. They had five children: Charles A., Theron D., Clara, Cora M., and Mary Northrop. Charles and Theron born while still in New York. Moved to Michigan late 1860 where Clara was born, then in the early 1860's to Taycheedah, Fond du Lac County Wisconsin where Cora and Mary were born. In 1881 the family moved to Powhatan Township, Pocahontas Co, Iowa where he lived the remainder of his mortal existance.
