Attended McGuire's University School in Richmond and then the United States Military Academy,graduating 1n 1915.
Served in Pershing's Mexico campaign,then as a Captain in the Corps of Engineers in France during World War I.
During World War II,he served at the Army War College in Washington,DC and in the Far Eastern Theater.
Retired as a General in 1946 and in 1947 became the comptroller for the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond,serving until 1962.
He married Elizabeth Hamilton and had three sons,two died in World War II.
