Birth: 1923
Death: Aug. 6, 2001

He was the most prolific director in television. His credits include more than 80 series starting with "Captain Kangaroo" back in the 1950s. His 1998 memoir's title, "Cue the Rabbit on the Rainbow", comes from the line he used quite often while directing "Captain Kangaroo". Many of television's classics were directed by Rafkin including, "The Andy Griffith Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", and M*A*S*H to name a few. He won an Emmy in 1982 for an episode of "One Day At a Time" and two Cable Ace Awards in 1988 and 1990 for "It's Gary Shandling's Show". He attributed his success and longevity to his personality and the fact that he wanted to work.  (bio by: Ron Moody)
