On February 23, 1837, he fathered Levi Pickering (JP) who married Sydna J. Burget (b. Aug. 12, 1847 d. March 28, 1874) daughter of Henry Burget and Rebecca Bolly. Levi died November 24, 1921.
On October 6, 1839, he fathered Elizabeth Ann Pickering who married James Erwin (b.1842 d. 1909) and died February 24, 1927.
On January 13, 1842, he fathered Phillip M. Pickering who married Elizabeth Jackson, (b. April 3, 1846) sister of Mary Jane Jackson. Phillip died January 19, 1929.
On August 8, 1844, he fathered Evan T. Pickering who married Mary Jane Jackson (b. 1853 d. 1940). Evan died December 29, 1927.
On February 22, 1847, he fathered Mary J. Pickering who married Peter Coan and died July 1932.
On June 25, 1849, he fathered Deborah J. Pickering who married Ellis Speece and died July 24, 1934.
In 1850, he was a blacksmith living in Rheatown Tennessee with his family. At the household lived wife Jane, sons Levi, Phillip, and Evan, daughters Elizabeth, Mary, and Deborah. A striker for the blacksmith shop also lived with them. His name was Henry Morelock.
On June 25, 1852, he fathered Nathaniel E. Pickering who married Elizabeth McIntosh and died August 7, 1940.
On November 1, 1852, he and his family along with his brother Phineas Pickering, left Rheatown for Alto Indiana in a wagon. He left behind in Rheatown his mother, 2 brothers, and a sister. Also he left behind the graves of his father, brother, and son. The trip took 27 days and was 508 miles in length. It cost $55 of which Jonathon's portion was $37.80. Along the way, they stopped at Jonathon's Uncle Benjamin Pickering (EP) near Rushville Indiana. Near Alto, they stopped at the home of Jesse Marshall where Wesley Grubbs and Rebekah Pickering (EP) 's wagon broke down. Jesse Marshall was married to Jonathon's sister Mary Pickering (EP) and was from Greene Co. Their journey ended at Phineas's home.
On January 14, 1855, he fathered Calvin L. Pickering who married Laura Johnson and died October 26, 1943.
On June 11, 1858, he fathered Jonathon Richmond Pickering.
In 1860, he was Justice of the Peace in Alto. He lived there with his family with his real estate valuing $100 and his personal property worth $200. They lived on Dixon Road about .1 miles north of Alto Road on the west side.
He once was on the Grand Jury in Howard Co. Indiana in the murder trial of Elijah McCool who had killed Henry Shank.
In 1877, his wife Jane died. He died two months later. Sydna J. Burget, wife of Levi Pickering (JP) is buried between Jonathon and Jane with them all sharing the same marker.
