Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, Saturday, February 14, 2015:

LIGHTNER - Virginia Marie, 80, Johnstown, passed away Feb. 13, 2015, at Laurelwood Care Center. Born Feb. 11, 1935, in Johnstown, daughter of Earl and Aletha (Humphreys) Brant. Preceded in death by parents; husband, James Lightner; and sister, Evelyn Kimmel. Survived by children, Mary, married to Michael Muchesko, and Susan Lightner, both of Johnstown, and Bill, married to Susan (Weiss), Strongstown; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; special friend, Dr. Judith Wolfe; and her feline companion, Cookie. The family would like to thank Interim Hospice nurses, Deb, Stacey, Sue and Jessica, along with the staff at Laurelwood Care Center for the care they provided to Virginia. She was a member of Moxham Colonial Church of the Brethren. She also belonged to the following organizations: Red Hat Society, VFW ladies auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Johnstown High School and an officer with the Johnstown High school reunion committee of 1953. She also was a graduate of Conemaugh School of Nursing and retired from Lee Hospital after 25 years of service. She also worked for Dr. Judith Wolfe for more than 20 years. She loved reading, cross-stitch and genealogy. A special thanks to her “lunch bunch.” Her cookies were second to none as was her Chex mix. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great- great-grandmother and mother in law. She was an overall great person who always thought of others. At her request, there will be no viewing or service. John Henderson Co. Funeral Home is serving the family.
