Bennett James Herrick, was born, April 29, 1948, in Denver, Colorado, but lived, most of his life in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated, from Oak Park, Senior, High School, in 1966. While there, he participated in Speech and Drama and was named, the best actor, in 1966, at the Northwest, Missouri State, Conference, Drama Festival. He had also, become an Eagle Scout. Bennett was survived, by his parents, Loren and Marge Herrick, a brother, Dennis and a sister, Lynette. Dennis was, later killed in Vietnam, as well. Bennett served, with the 3rd, Battalion, 506th, Infantry, (Currahees) 101st, Airborne Division. He was killed, on "March 25, 1968," in a search and destroy mission, west, of Phan Thiet, during an engagement, with a platoon-sized, enemy force." (This from "The Stand Alone Battalion, by Jerald Berry and Joe Alexander, fellow Currahees.) Bennett is buried, in White Chapel Cemetery, Gladstone, Missouri. God rest, your soul, Currahee! Bennie,I don't know quite what to say. You gave your all bud. I would have expected no less. We miss you man. Remember the time you & your brother beat the tar out of me with that bat? Boy,was I surprised! Ha! I guess I ask for it,huh? Rest in peace brother,for you gave your all. I'll always remember you. You are not forgotten my friend.

Honoring your memory, on this day for the Ultimate Sacrifice, you made, on March 25th, 1968. Bennett's brother, Dennis was, also Killed-In-Action, his death occured, on August 14th, 1970. He didn't, have to go, but he did. The Herrick's, are among several sets, of brothers, who died, in the Vietnam War. To Bennett and Dennis, you are remembered, with honor.
