Noma May Estes, 94, of Temple, passed away Jan. 1, 2006 at a local hospital. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at Scott's Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. M.V. Hemphill officiating. Burial will follow at Gatesville City Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Estes was born Jan. 4, 1911 in Coryell County, Texas. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Woodward and Cora Lee Thomas Woodward. Noma attended school in the Hemline, Union and the Harmon Communities. She married Thurman Drury Estes Oct. 23, 1932. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1994. She was also preceded in death by three infant children and by siblings, Willie, Henry, Chester and Mabel. She lived most of her life in Gatesville and was a member of Westview Baptist Church. Throughout her life she had many jobs, but the most joy was brought to her by babysitting the different children whose lives she touched. She was a wife, a loving mother, a dear grandmother, and a caregiver to many a person throughout her long life. She was able to be at home in Temple near her loved ones till God called her home. Survivors include her son, Carroll Estes and wife, Annette; grandhildren, Stephanie Estes of Calif. and Chad Estes of Dallas and numerous nieces and nephews.
