Harold Tompkins, 61, of 111 Dayton Road, Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, September 5, at Oak Ridge Hospital. He was the son of Clarence Tompkins of Elgin. Mr. Tompkins was an instrument technician at the X-10 plant in Oak Ridge and was a member of the Oliver Springs United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II. He is also survived by his wife, Reba Morgan Tompkins; two sons: David Tompkins of Winchester, Ky., and Richard Tompkins of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Lora Anne Smith of Kingston; two step-sons: Steve Brackett of Oliver Springs, and Clarence Brackett of Oak Ridge; a step-daughter, Brenda Coughron of Vinton, La.; a sister, Hazel Walker of Oliver Springs; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, at the Oliver Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Harvey Mason and Rev. Rhonda Knight officiating. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Gardens. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs was in charge of arrangements. (Source: The Scott County News, 10 Sep 1981, p4)
