James Emanuel Christian; however, his family, neighbors, and friends knew him as Manuel Christian. He was born and raised in Morgan County Missouri to Joseph Lee and Amanda Louise Purvis Christian. He first married Mary Jane Wilson, on 17 Jan 1909 in Morgan County, Missouri. To that union was born a son Roy Lee Christian. His marriage to Mary Jane was very brief and ended in divorce on 9 Dec 1912. After working in the timber with his older brothers and brother in laws, he relocated to Taney County, Missouri about 1916. On 25 Dec 1918, he married Ethel Marie Hodge in Taney County, Missouri. The marriage was performed by E. B. Michel and witnessed by Marion and Louise Hodge, who were a brother and sister to his wife Ethel Hodge Christian. To that union 11 children were born. He was a Mason and a member of Branson Lodge #587 Branson, Taney Co, Missouri; Initiated Entered Apprentice 15 Jun 1945; Passed to Fellow Craft 29 Nov 1946; Raised to Master Mason 17 Jan 1947; never held office; Died a Mason in good standing. Manuel was a farmer, timberman, and all-around handyman doing what jobs were available to support his family. While he was not a veterinarian, he was the primary go-to person for fellow farmers in his community. He died suddenly at 63 years of age due to a coronary embolism.
