Cecil Ozburn Bounds, 88, of Columbus, GA went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with Reverend Watson McKemie and Reverend Richard D. Collins officiating. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bethel Sunday School Class. Mr. Bounds was born in Olah, Mississippi on March 29, 1920, son of the late George Frank Bounds and Edith Steele Bounds. He has lived in Columbus since 1940 and was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God where he served in the Tutwiller Prison Ministry, the shut-in ministry and the MAPS team where he went on eight trips to South America. He served as a greeter and was a lifetime deacon. Mr. Bounds retired from Frito ÐLay after 23 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was part of the building of the Stillwell Road in Burma, India and China. Mr. Bounds was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Lynn Bounds, a sister, Buddy Harvey and a brother, Jimmy Bounds.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Frances Campbell Bounds of Columbus a son, Terry Bounds and his wife Ellen, a daughter, Brenda Hilderbrand and her husband Philip, three grandchildren, Brian Hilderbrand and his wife Becky, Melissa Germann and her husband Brian and Adam Bounds; a great grandson, Graydon Germann a great granddaughter, Presley Hilderbrand expected in November, four sisters, Margie Johnson, Erma Gibson and her husband Billy, Dell Robinson and her husband Bobby and Faye Riley and her husband Ray, two brothers, Pete Bounds and John Bounds and his wife Olene and like a daughter Denise Breuer and her husband Klaus and their sons, Daniel and Peter of Germany.
