John Ellis Syfrett, III 57, of Fortson, GA died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at his home.

Memorial services for Mr. Syfrett will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Pontoons (Intersection of Bartlett’s Ferry and River Road) Fortson, GA.

Jay was born February 27, 1957 in Columbus, GA the son of Betty Lou and John Ellis Syfrett, Jr. He was the owner and operator of Syfrett Boat Repair and Marina Fortson, GA. He grew up on the river and his family has been a part of river life for more than eighty years. Jay’s grandparents Big Daddy and Grandma owned the Syfrett Fish Camp. Jay was a member of the Friendship Masonic Lodge # 706, Scottish Rite and Shrine. He was a member of the Alabama Alumni Association and the Tide Pride.He leaves behind his longtime companion Vickie Braxton and brother Donald along with all his family and friends on the river.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be given in memory of Jay Syfrett to the Harris County Humane 3938 Barnes Mill Road Hamilton, GA 31811 or the Columbus-Ft. Benning Shrine Club 3202 Edgewood Road Columbus, GA 31907.
