Nancy Ann TUCKER HUDSON BRYANT is my GGGG grandmother. She is a daughter of William D. TUCKER (-1856) & Elizabeth. She married my GGGG grandfather James F. "Joe" HUDSON on 12 February 1827 in Crawford County, Georgia on a Monday. She was 13 years and 73 days old. They had at least three children together: Joseph Ephriam, James W., and Mary Jane. After Joe's death, when Nancy was 31 years and 42 days old on 12 Jan 1845 which was a Sunday she remarried John BRYANT in Crawford County, Georgia. They were married 38 years and 216 days. John was approximately 39 years old when they married of calculating he was born around 1806/1807 and died on a Thursday 16 August 1883. John and Nancy had at least three children together: William, John Lafayette, and Willmouth Elizabeth. I know of William and Willmouth's births and deaths as they are handwritten in the HUDSON/BRYANT family bible of which I hold the original. John and Nancy appear on the 1850 Crawford County Census as family #494 with their children. A census was taken 14 June 1860 in Rodgers DIstrict, Pine Level Post Office, Crawford County, Georgia. They were family #150 on page 887. Notes say that John was a farmer with property worth $1000. and belongings worth $1870. John BRYANT is a son of James BRYANT (-1850) & Mary REDDICK BRYANT (1771-1855). When Nancy remarried John BRYANT her children from her first marriage were ages 14 for Joseph (he was called Ephriam), James was 10 and Mary was 8. I don't know where John & Nancy's children William and Willmouth are buried but their son John Lafayette BRYANT is buried on the same row in the Society Hill Cemetery as they are. Nancy was 88 years and 11 days old when she died. She has a simple concrete covered grave with a badly broken marker beside John. I have photographed the inscription for documentation of the dates before they are lost. Her son Joseph Ephriam is buried near her also. He has a government C.S.A. service marker. Her son James died during his C.S.A. service and I am not aware of where he is buried. Her daughter-in-law(James's wife) is also buried in the Society Hill Cemetery. Her name was Mary Jane HUDSON. She has a simple marker somewhat separated away from the other HUDSON/BRYANT graves. Nancy appears on record as going to court with this daughter-in-law concerning her C.S.A. widow's pension after James (son) died. Nancy could not read or write at the age of 46 per the census and she signed her name as an "X" on the pension documents. Though Nancy had limited formal education it is passed down through family tradition that she was a business woman none the less who made many decisions with her husband. She learned from her father that it was wise to accumulate land and they did.
A living BRYANT relative Dennis BRYANT shared this photo with me of my GGGG grandmother Nancy and it is the only one my family has of her. Nancy's name was passed down to a daughter of her son Ephriam. Her granddaughter Nancy Ann HUDSON and her grandson James Russell "Ruffin" HUDSON are also buried in Society Hill as well as several other relatives.
