According to notes left by T Leo Dodd, Meeks Haley came from Georgia to Eldorado, Illinois sometime around 1840. Meeks was named for a popular Methodist Minister in Georgia. They stayed in Illinois seven years, that place and time was a requirement in their wedding agreement, Rosa Gregg was uncomfortable with the South and perhaps she thought that after having lived in the North for seven years, Meeks would not desire to return to his family in Georgia. Their son, John Haley, was born in Illinois, he became a minister, teacher and was an editor at an early Eldorado newspaper. They had two more children while living in Illinois. They then moved back to the Haley mansion in Georgia, where two or three additional children were born to them (including Frank Haley). Rosa's health began to fail and they moved back to Illinois bringing several family members with them. They purchased a large tract of land extending from Wasson to Sutton roads and lying south of the NYC Railroad and about one half a mile wide from north to south.

About the Gains Cemetery. The Gains Cemetery is about 1000 feet from the house of the Grumley family. Right in the middle of a field on top of the hill, it flooded a lot around the area before the Ohio river had all the dams built.
I did find the Gaines Cemetery. Here's the coordinates: SE1/4 NE1/4, Section 23, T7S R7E Near Section 24 line and abut 1/2 mile south of Hamilton Co. line in northeast part of Saline Co. Turn north off US 45 north of Texas City in Gallatin Co. on first road to the north, go a short distance to main road and turn west into Saline Co. about a mile, then north a short distance byond Mr. Grumley's home (just copying what it says - have no idea who he is or where the house is - or was). The cemetery is on Mr. Grumley's property and can be seen from the road on higher ground west of the road. Walk across the field to reach the cemetery.

We only know this as the Gaines Cemetery today and that might be because of the headstone I sent you laying on the ground?
