Private, Co. C, 137th Regiment, 35th Division. Son of Mrs C.A. Carlson; born February 21, 1896 at Galesburg. Entered service at Galesburg April 1, 1918; to Camp Dodge; transferred to Headquarters Troop, 9th Army Corps as Chauffeur December 28, 1918; overseas one year, 18 days; 14 months 13 days in service; nine weeks in trenches and was in major offensive at Meuse-Argonne; discharged June 13, 1919.
GALESBURG - David E Carlson, 87, 891 Warren St, died Thursday at 9:50 PM in Galesburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born February 21, 1896, in Galesburg. He married Ellen Dahlstrom in Galesburg July 24, 1920.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Dale of Galesburg; one daughter, Marge Nelson of Sioux City, IA; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years and then worked at Rowe Mfg Co for five years before retiring in 1962. He was a World War I veteran and a member of Covenant Church, where he had served on the board of deacons and as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Funeral will be Saturday at 11 AM in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Rev. James Ecklund officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel one hour before the service.
Memorials may be made to his church, the family said.
