PIONEER MERCHANT AT LINCOLN SEAT, E. L. HOLLAND, DIES

RUSTON, La., Oct. 9. - E. L. Holland, aged 80, pioneer merchant citizen of this city, died at his home here early Saturday morning. Besides a wife, deceased leaves three sons, J. D. Holland, prominent merchant of Ruston; V. P. Holland, Hope, Ark.,; C. P. Holland, Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. W. M. Crumpton, Columbus, Miss., and Mrs. A. E. Stinson, Ruston, all of whom were at the bedside of their father when the end came. Mr. Holland was born at Holly Springs, Miss., but came with his parents to Lincoln parish when 16 months old. He embarked in the mercantile business at Vienna, when that village was the seat of Lincoln parish. Later, when the V. S. & P. railroad was built through Ruston, Mr. Holland was one of the three first merchants to open a business here. He was the oldest steward, both in years and in point of service, of Trinity Methodist church. Funeral was held from the church at 4 p.m. Saturday, with Dr. Winans Drake, pastor, in charge. Floral offerings were among the most beautiful ever seen here.
