Albany Mourns Slain Teenager
The investigation into the stabbing death of a 2006 Albany High School graduate and South Plains College student known as a caring and funny young man is "pretty slow going," a Lubbock Police Department spokesman said Wednesday.

"There's a lot of evidence to work through," said Lt. John Caspell.

Lubbock police are investigating the Monday death of Bradford McIver, 19, as a homicide. Caspell indicated the death was an isolated incident.

No arrests have been made.

McIver's body was discovered at about 6:30 p.m. Monday inside the Indiana Village Apartments in Lubbock by friends who had been trying to reach him since Saturday.

McIver's friends became worried after calling several times and getting no answer, according to a 9-1-1 tape. When they arrived at their friend's upstairs apartment, they knocked several times before checking the door, which was unlocked. He didn't have any roommates.

Police said McIver was stabbed multiple times, likely while inside the apartment, but authorities did not know when he died. Friends said they last saw him Saturday.

McIver's parents, Glen and Jacque McIver of Albany, were unavailable for comment Wednesday.

Doris Miller, a close friend serving as the family's representative, said McIver's funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at First Assembly of God, 5345 E. Highway 180, in Albany. The location was chosen "only because it is big enough to accommodate everyone expected to attend." The church's capacity is about 900.

Miller has known the McIver family since 1997, when they moved to Albany.

McIver's six best friends from high school will be pallbearers, and all of his friends planned to wear polo shirts in tribute, Miller said.

"Bradford loved to wear polo shirts," Miller said. "His best friends have a polo shirt for Bradford to wear, too."

Longtime friend Laken Shack and a number of McIver's other friends worked on a presentation with slides of McIver's photography and his favorite rock music that will be part of the service.

"He was a very good friend, and we loved him very much," Shack said. "There were 40 in our high school class. He touched all of us. Bradford was like a brother. We are all very confused as to who would do such a thing to someone so caring."

Albany High School Principal Thomas Terrell said McIver was "a good student and a good kid."

In high school, McIver was a football player, worked on the high school yearbook and was interested in pursuing a career in international business, said Terrell.

McIver attended the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Albany and served on the Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat children's board.

Memorials may be sent to Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat, 910 South CR 460, Brownwood, Texas 76810.

Bradford McIver, 19, a South Plains College student from Albany was found March 17, 2008 dead in his North Lubbock apartment. He had been stabbed multiple times. Exact time of death is not known at this time.
