Civil War Veteran, CSA

Colonel, 47th Arkansas Cavalry, CSA;
Captain, Co. I, 8th Louisiana Infantry, CSA;

Died 12 Sep 1926 at age 94 of a cold in Washington, D.C.;

At the time of his death, he was the oldest employee of the United States government; reported to have served as an aide to General Stonewall Jackson; took part in the Battle of Manassas; was with Jackson during the Valley Campaign where he was wounded in the wrist at Cross Keys;

Was promoted to Major and ordered to report to General Sterling Price at Little Rock, AR; took part in raids into Kansas and was later captured there and sent to Johnson's Island, OH as a Prisoner of War where he remained until the close of hostilities;

After the war, he lived in Louisiana for a time where he served as a delegate for that State to the commercial convention of 1868 in Memphis;

Served as a reporter for the "New York Daily Graphic" and after moving to Washington D.C. and founded his own newspaper called the "National View"; served as Secretary of the American Bimetallic League;

Moved to Arizona for a time and took part in politics but returned to Washington to serve as Deputy Collector of the IRS.
