James Alan Henderson

DELMAR, MD—After a 21-month heroic battle with brain cancer, James Alan Henderson, 37, departed this life and entered eternal peace on Friday, April 19, 2013. He was born on Feb. 16, 1976, in Morris, ILL., to Robert and Evelyn Entwistle Henderson.

James grew up in Morris, ILL., and later moved to Gettysburg, Pa., where he graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1994. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served for eight years and was Honorably Discharged achieving the rank of Corporal. He was a member of The Marine Corps League Ssgt Walter "Trae" Cohee III Detachment #115 in Salisbury.

In 2000, he married Alice Abbott Hartman, moved to Delmar, Md., and began work for Harkins Concrete Construction in Salisbury, as Concrete Finisher. In 2001, he was promoted to Project Manager/Estimator, a position he held for nine years.

James served on the Town of Delmar Planning & Zoning Council in 2008 & 2009. He then became The Commissioner for The Town of Delmar in 2010 & 2011.

In 2010, James was hired as General Manager of Delaware Tire Center in Salisbury, where he remained until 2012.

James was preceded in death by his grandparents Alan & Genevieve Entwistle, and grandfather James Henderson of Morris.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; children, Jacob Hartman and wife, Jessica of Laurel, Del., Justin Hartman, Jonathan Hartman, Olivia Hartman and Nathaniel Henderson of Delmar, Md; uncle and aunt, Jim & Barbara Entwistle; cousins Julie (Kelly) Retowsky, Heather (Mannie) Roberts, Jamison (Troy Kessel) Entwistle and Erin (Mike) Del Balzo of Gettysburg, Pa.; parents Robert & Evelyn Henderson and brothers, John & Jeffery Henderson and grandmother Virginia Henderson of Morris.

A celebration of the life of James will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013, at The Tabernacle, 8997 Bi-State Boulevard, Delmar, Md 21875. Pastor Mike Rittenhouse will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date in a private family ceremony in Gettysburg.
