Obituary-One by one us old soldiers are dying away. At his home in Shallotte township, on the night of June 30th. John D Stanley, death took from our midst. His death was due to cancer. He had hungered and suffered for over two years, but patiently bore his affliction. He was sixty one years old, and for twenty years had been a member of the Methodist Church. His sorrowing wife loses a faithful husband, and his children a kind loving father. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. K. Andrews, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The good wife and children have the sympathy of all in their affection. "Asleep in Jesus, blessed Sleep, From which none ever wake to weep. A calm and undisturbed repose, Unbroken by the last of foes" Posted in the Southport Leader 12 July 1894
