Family oral history says that the tombstone was erected when Ida (McKee) Smith died after giving birth to a son (Clarence). Ida was told to stay in bed, but wanted to see what she looked like after the birth. She got out of bed and started bleeding and bled to death. The father assumed the child which seemed sickly would die shortly so he erected the tombstone. The child lived a good life, but the tombstone remains.
