Della Norine Persons, 73, of Nampa, passed away in the early morning hours of March 12, 2014 with her family around her.
Norine was born on December 25, 1940, in Salmon, Idaho, a daughter of Dell and Mable Keyser Yant. Norine lived in Challis, Idaho with her mother and father, also spending time with her three step sisters Wilma Baker, Donna Dean and Bessie Reynolds. Norine worked at Challis Dry Goods, an establishment owned and run by Jim and Wilma Baker. Norine met Howard Persons while in Challis. The couple was married in Challis on December 27, 1957. In 1959 they moved to Long Beach, CA where Howard attended the Los Angeles Mortuary Science School. Their family grew with the birth of their first son, Morgan. After Howard graduated they moved back to Idaho where Howard began working at Walk Mortuary in Rupert. Their family continued to grow with the birth of a second son, Kent and their third son, Kevin. After the family was established, Norine began working as an assistant at a Pharmacy in Rupert to help support the family as Howard worked at Walk Mortuary and drove ambulance in Minidoka County.
In the fall of 1970, Howard and Norine moved their family to Nampa where Howard became a partner with Charlie Flahiff, at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Nampa. Howard and Norine continued to buy more and more of the business; Norine worked in many roles in the family business including office manager, corporate board member and eventually, a controlling officer in the corporation. Howard and Norine eventually sold what had become Persons Funeral Chapel in 1996.
Norine was a member of the Methodist Church in Nampa and was a participant in many fraternal and civic organizations. She took pride and enjoyment in her service to other people.
Norine is survived by her three sons and their families, Morgan; Kent and his daughter Gabrielle; Kevin and his children, Casey and Chloe; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Howard Persons, and her sisters Wilma, Donna and Bessie.
Viewing for family and friends will be from 5 pm till 8 pm on Tuesday, March 18 at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Her funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 19, at Coverdale Funeral Home, Rev. Joseph Housh will officiate. Burial will be afterwards at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise. There will be a reception directly following the funeral at Cloverdale Funeral Home before going to the cemetery.
