Singer. He became known as Canada's first teen idol with the single "Unless You Care" (1964), which became a major hit on the Canadian and US charts. His other hits include "Only Sixteen", "Kisses for My Baby", "Say It Again" and "Baby's Gone". He also appeared on the TV shows Shindig, Hullabaloo and American Bandstand. In 1969 Black joined the Toronto musical production of "Hair", where he met his future wife Laurel Ward; they performed as a duo in the 1970s and had several Top-40 hits, among them "Sun Goes By", "Goin' Down on the Road to L.A." and "Waves of Emotion". Throughout the 1980's he sang jingles for commercials and teamed with his wife as a country artist. He died of multiple sclerosis. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
