Ellen was born 5 Jan 1890 at St Francis, KS to Phar August & Mary Abrahamson Peterson. She was the middle child of five children. Her older brother was Bernard Peterson (b 11 Oct 1886 - d 18 Jan 1928). Her older sister was Anna Peterson Seeman (b 23 Mar 1888 - d 7 Oct 1938). Her younger brother was Paul John Peterson (b 25 Jun 1893 - 29 Dec 1984). Her younger sister was Ada Peterson Sisler.
Ellen married Otto Hoglund on 22 Feb 1910 in Phelps Co, NE. This was the first marriage between the Hoglunds and Petersons. Her brother Bernard married Otto's niece Mabel Johnson and brother Paul married Otto's niece Esther Johnson. Mabel and Esther were daughters of Otto's sister Tillie. Ellen's sister Anna married Charlie Seeman and sister Ada married Thomas Sisler.
Ellen and Otto had two daughters: Marna (b 9 Jul 1911 - 24 Aug 1985) and Myra (b 11 Sep 1915 - 2 Dec 1927).
The family was in a serious accident in Dec 1927. Myra died as a result of the accident and Marna suffered a punctured lung.
Otto and Ellen farmed one mile north and 1 1/2 miles west of Atlanta for several years. Otto raised horses on this farm. Ellen always raised chickens and made her daughters clothes often dressing them alike. They then moved to the farm one mile north of Atlanta. This farm was later made part of a game preserve.
After Otto passed away, Ellen moved to Holdrege, NE. She loved her house and yard and worked hard before moving to the Methodist Memorial Homes. She passed away 18 Nov 1971 at the Brewster Hospital, Holdrege, NE.
