Ted L. Belles, the son of John D. and Bessie V. (Heimbach) Belles, was born in Blakesburg, Iowa, in 1926. The oldest of three children in the family, he was followed by a sister, Bonnie June (Belles/Thielbert) Seager (1930-2008) and a brother, Larry.

During his youth, his family moved from Wapello County, Iowa, to nearby Henry County, where his father, John, was a county highway engineer for a number of years. Ted met and married Henry County native, Mazie Ella Walker of New London, Iowa, on February 19, 1945, in Iowa City.

Ted and Mazie had four children: Carol Sue Williams; Mark, Mitchell, and Steven Belles. Their family lived in Wyoming in the 1960s, later in Arizona, where Ted and Mazie were divorced in the 1970s. Ted was affiliated with Union Bankers Insurance Company.

On May 7, 2008, in Clark County, Nevada, Ted remarried, to Dr. Manuelle W. (Waggoner) Martin (1919-2007).

Ted L. Belles, a resident of Phoenix since 1964, passed away October 18, 2002. Born in Blakesburg, Iowa, September 22, 1926, he had a long career with Bankers Life & Casualty Insurance Company and in recent years had worked as an insurance broker.

A World War II veteran, Ted served in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a bomber pilot in the U.S. Navy and received numerous awards for meritorious service including the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Survivors include his wife, Maunelle W. Belles; three sons: Mark David, Mitchell Walker, and Steven Patrick; two daughters: Carol Williams and Nancy Rikel (Yorba Linda, California); a sister: Bonnie Seager (Mt. Pleasant, Iowa), a brother, Lawrence W. (Rochester, New York); seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
