COLUMBIA FALLS - Harold Vearl Jenks, 102, formerly of Choteau, died of natural causes June 7 at the Montana Veteran's Home in Columbia Falls.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Croxford Funeral Home. A memorial service and burial of ashes with military honors is 1 p.m. Aug. 17 in Spokane Memorial Gardens in Spokane.
Harold was born July 27, 1907 in Rock Lake, North Dakota, and lived a long, full life of almost 103 years. He was a longtime resident of Spokane, North Idaho, and Montana, working in the lumber industry.
He raised his family in Williams, MN, and moved to Spokane in 1950. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a gunners-mate in the Pacific and also helped build the Alcon Highway in 1942. He was a good provider for his family, was respected by all, had a fine sense of humor and played a mean fiddle.
Harold is survived by his children: Lucille (Bill) Obernolte, of Fairfield, Ronald (Jeannette) Jenks, of Spokane, DeDe (Bill) Demander, of Astoria, OR, and Jerry (Bonnie) Jenks, of Troy, MT; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Luelle; and a son, Harold Jenks Jr.
