Gen Silas Colgrove
Birth: May 24, 1816
Death: Jan. 13, 1907

Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. A lawyer before the Civil War, he was appointed Lieutenant Colonel in the 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry in April 1861. He was later promoted Colonel in command of the 27th Indiana Infantry and participated in engagements at Shenandoah, Cedar Mountain and the Battle of Antietam, Virginia. In 1863, his regiment became part of the Union XII Corps seeing action at the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Transferred to the Union XX Corps in 1864, he served in the Atlanta Campaign and was wounded at the Battle of Peachtree Creek. In August 1864, he was brevetted Brigadier General of US Volunteers and resigned from the Army in December 1864. After the war, he was appointed to a judgeship in Winchester, Indiana and was elected president of the Cincinnati, Fort Wayne & Grand Rapids Railroad. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
