Staff Sergeant Robert Kiyoshi Kawamua was assigned to the U.S. Air Force 14th Air Commando Squadron at Phan Rang Air Base, South Vietnam.
On February 14, 1968, USAF AC-47D "Spooky" gunship S/N 43-49859 departed Phan Rang Air Base on a close air support mission. The aircraft was shot down just five miles south of the air base, killing all eight of the aircrew on board:
