Nora was born May 14, 1906 on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Sisseton, SD to James and Ingeborg (Ust) Chilson. Nora moved to Voltaire, ND at age 7. She graduated from Bergen High School and then Minot State College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught 2 years at rural Ruso and 1 year at Crystal School in McLean County.
Nora married Glen J. Larson, October 6, 1929 at her parents home. They began their lives together in Grenora, ND where Glen was a grain buyer. They moved to Douglas, ND in 1931 where they remained until their retirement. Nora was the bookkeeper at the Glen J. Larson Elevator that they owned and operated until it was destroyed by fire in 1966. Nora was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, being part of Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild. She was also active in the Rebecca Lodge, the Army Mothers and Nifty Fifties Senior Center. She also loved crocheting, reading and playing the piano, which she did by ear.
Nora is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Gail and Gloria, Garrison; Ivan and Arthleen, Gillette, WY; 4 daughters and two sons-in-law: Cleo Wagner, Garrison; Joan Varty, Minot, ND; Mary and Virgil Wagner, Olympia, WA, and Myra and Tom Trotter, Iron Ridge, WI; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, parents and 13 brothers and sisters. The funeral was held on Dec. 27th [2001] at Trinity Lutheran Church in Douglas with burial in the church cemetery.
