Mary Gaffield was born in the Province of Ontario, Can,. March 10, 1859 and passed peacefully away at her home in Humbird after a short illness, Monday, January 21, 1946, having attained the advanced age of 86 years and 10 months.
September 25, 1877 she was united in marriage with Norman Hart, at Colburn, Ontario, Canada. They moved to Wisconsin in 1887 and this vieinity to which Mrs Hart came, as a young matron, has been her home for nearly sixty years. She was the last one of a family of brothers and sisters born in her parental home, and was one of the very few remaining older settlers here.
To this happy union were born seven children. One little daughter, Mattie, passed way many years ago. Her husband preceded her in death April 29, 1935.
Mr and Mrs Hart, surrounded by family relatives and friends, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in this village in 1927.
After the loss of her husband Mrs Hart made her home with her son Harry and family the greater part of the time, on the farm which had been her home in an earlier day, spending the winter months at times with her daughter and family at Evansville, and others daughter in Chicago and South Bend. When her son and wife retired from the farm and moved into the village, Mrs. Hart returned again home, spending her last years in the residence which had been her home, after she and her husband retired from business activities.
She was a life-long and active member of the Free Methodist church in Humbird and for many years one of its officials. The Bible was her sustaining guide to comfort, and because of her devout Christian life many will call her blessing.
