Ishar Singh

Waziristan Campaign Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sepoy in the 28th Punjab Regiment, Indian Army. At Haidari Kach, Waziristan, April 10, 1921, a convoy of troops were attacked by enemy rebels. Early in the action, Sepoy Singh received a severe gunshot wound in the chest but continued to engage the enemy. When ordered go have his wound dressed, instead he went to the medical officer and was of great assistance in pointing out where the wounded were. He made innumerable journeys to the action line defending wounded comrades for over three hours before he finally submitted to be evacuated. For valor in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in November, 1921 and later achieved the rank of Captain. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
