| Birth: | Jan. 13, 1827 | | Death: | Sep. 16, 1860 |  Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lieutenant in the 60th Bengal Native Infantry. On September 14, 1857, Lieutenant Shebbeare was in command of the 4th Column of the assault on the fort at Delhi, India. Twice he charged the wall of the loopholed serai, under murderous fire, but failed to attain a breach. Despite a bullet through his cheek and a bad scalp wound he conducted a most successful retreat. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal and promoted Captain. He later died on board the SS Emau during a deployment in the East China Sea.
