He began his football career as a star at Cedartown High, Georgia (1944 to 1948) and went on to play four years as a guard for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In 1951, he was named an All-American by the Football Writers Association and the American Football Coaches Association. He also played in the Senior Bowl, College All-Star game and was named the Most Valuable Lineman in the Southeastern Conference. In 1952 he was drafted as a middle linebacker for the New York Giants. His four NFL seasons with the Giants included the 1956 World Championship. An injury ended his career in 1957. He is a member of the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame, State of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
