Willie was the third of seven children born to Herman Dollase and his wife, Auguste Gruenewald. He was married to Martha Tripke and the father of eight children. His eldest, Hazel, died when she was eleven. Willie worked as the foreman of a shoe factory. He enjoyed his many children and those grandchilden he got to meet. He died on a visit to his daughter Jean's home during the Easter Holiday, less than a year after his wife died.
