Roger was drafted into the US Army.
Arriving in Vietnam 24 November 1968, he was assigned to C Battery, 2nd Battalion, 319th Artillery, 101st Airborne Division, USARV. During Operation Apache Snow hostile forces attacked the Fire Support Base Airborne, located in Ashau Valley and 7 kilometers north northwest of A Luoi Village.
Roger died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body from hostile artillery or mortar fire directed at the base. The Army lost 27 men.
Survived by his father, Ralph E Ross of 687 Olympic Avenue, Hayward, CA and his mother; Loritta Bastrom of 6907 San Carlos St, South Gate, CA.
