Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1858 and when the Civil War began he held the commission of Major in the 5th Regiment Virginia Cavalry. Appointed Colonel of the 13th Virginia Infantry Regiment, he participated in battles at Shenandoah, Gaines's Mill, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, Cedar Mountain, Fredericksburg, Wilderness and Spotsylvania. In 1864, he was promoted Brigadier General and was killed in battle at Bethesda Church, Virginia on May 30, 1864. His brother Union Brigadier General William Rufus Terrill, was killed in action at the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky in October 1862.
