U.S. Navy Lt. Warren Seth Anderson was seen parachuting from his plane out over Sendai Airport which was a bombing target on August 10, 1945, one of the last days of air attacks on the main land - they continued until August 14th. Sendai Airport is 186 miles northeast of Tokyo along the coast. He was flying from the carrier U.S.S. Wasp. However, no one could confirm that his chute opened due to the smoke from the raid nor was he ever recovered during ground searches after the war.
Note - The two atomic bombs which ended the war were dropped on August 6th, 1945 (Hiroshima) and August 9th, 1945 (Nagasaki). On August 10th, 1945 - The Japanese Govt. accepted the Allied Surrender terms. On August 15th, Emperor Hirohito announced his country's unconditional surrender.
He left behind a wife, Barbara Ann Houts, a son, Warren Seth Anderson Jr., and his mother - Alma Anderson
